We are thrilled to share some incredible news with our community. Springfield Community Center Inc. has been awarded a $750,000 African American Civil Rights grant from the National Park Service to help stabilize and preserve the historic Springfield Log Cabin School.

Built in 1937 by the hands and sacrifice of local African American families, this log cabin has stood as a school, a Freedom School, a community center, and a beacon of resilience. This grant marks the first major investment in the building in decades — and a powerful step toward restoring a place that shaped generations.

We’re preserving more than a structure. We’re protecting a legacy.
