Student and Parent Protesters.
WSB-TV newsfilm clip of African American high school students protesting continued segregation of local schools following the transfer of all local white students to schools in neighboring counties, Crawfordville, Taliaferro County, Georgia; also African American students prevented from entering a school in Warrenton, Warren County, Georgia, 1965 September 25 - Civil Rights Digital Library
During the 1965 School Bus struggle, 81 students registered to integrate A.H. Stephen's school, but the school was closed, and White students were bussed to neighboring schools. The Black students who were not allowed to ride the bus refused to attend the All-Black Murden School and were allowed to use the Springfield Log Cabin, which was being used as SCOPE headquarters, as a Freedom School.
About 300 students attended the Freedom School, which is identified in the photos as Shirley Ann Moore, Margaret Ushery, John Henry Barcus, Rufus Richardson, Mary Alice Thomas, Debra Alexander, Constance Combs, Cleo Paschal, Vivian Combs, Phyllis Combs, Marvine Evans, and Mother Sallie Arnett.
