What We Do
MEANINGFUL WORK
Education
Springfield Community Center, Inc helps the Taliaferro County Community protect the local African American history through the preservation and utilization of the Springfield Log Cabin School so that there is a repository of African American history that brings much-needed context to the local Confederate museum, a community center for educational development, and a gathering place that positively reflects African American culture is a leader in the sector and ensures that local needs and priorities come first. Our Education program offers a much-desired platform for people who deserve it most. Become a part of a brighter future and join our efforts today.

Community Outreach
The Ayeta Charitable Hands Africa orphanage and Many Hopes educational foundation receive donations from the Springfield Community Center. Our Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints Family classes share historical findings, and we showcase research facts and knowledge on our Social Media and Blog. We plan to house them in the newly restored Community Center and museum.

Volunteering
We initiated a community garden last year where we planted various fruits and vegetables. We plan to add persimmons and plums to the garden, which will take a few years to grow. Planting and weeding contribute to the garden’s health and provide a serene opportunity to enjoy the fresh air and connect with nature.

In July, we held a listening session with Brandon Byrd from the New Georgia Project to understand how the citizens of Taliaferro want to develop. Engaging with citizens to understand their development preferences ensures a collaborative and informed approach. We hope these ongoing sessions continue to foster positive change in Taliaferro!
